So.. how many you got?

It's a question that is far too often asked.  No matter where you go… it's there.  It's like .. well, it gets really annoying sometimes.  Because it's something that is very often present. I found myself not helping but always judging a youth event based on the numbers.

Well, God changed that today for me.

It's hard during the summer time to not expect a large number of students out to each and every event.  I mean.. they're not in school.. so where else should they be.  Let's forget about the fact that they may in vacation or even that they may have summer jobs, right??   They should be spending every waking moment thinking of how they can get to youth.

Yah. Right.

I was struggling. I was getting disappointed, discouraged and feeling like a failure - because I was getting stressed about how few students were coming out to events.

"Care for one as if it's your only one."  That's what God was telling me. "Whoever is there.. is supposed to be there."

Still a daily struggle that I'm working through, but it is getting easier.

I think this may be a good reminder for many of us Youth Pastors, especially during these Summer months… Treat each student as if they are all you have.  Pour into them, disciple them.. love them for all you have.

And while numbers are important to track attendance, successes and failures… don't' make numbers that important. Love what you have and God will give you more.

Any thoughts??
