I believe the church should be the #1 example of what effective mentorship and apprenticeship looks like. This idea is specifically for working with "at-risk" youth. Young men are often not willing to sit down and look you in the eyes and talk about their issues. But if the two of you are looking under the hood of a car together and you have built a trust relationship with them (which can only happen over time) then they are more willing to share what is really going on in their lives. Plus they are learning valuable trade skills which will add to their self-worth, confidence and independence.
