I can identify with the YS article. The more successful we have been at integrating students into the life of the church, the less involved they are in youth activities. I have to keep reminding myself that students dropping out of my youth group to engage in the life of the congregation is success.
The "what if" questions you ask are good. I would warn youth ministers to really think through the consequences of shifting to parent centered resourcing and youth integration. It is a complete role change (for me) that demands a different skill set. It requires new measures of success that the other leaders (especially those who hire and fire) need to buy into.
